Choice $1300 New April 5! Superb Presentation, Challenging Civil War Issue, Near-Gem Original, Lakeland Collection.. A marvelous 1865-S half dime, from the Lakeland Collection, with a mintage of only 120,000. The story is the same for all Civil War era San Francisco issues in that there was a strong demand for smaller silver denominations to support western frontier commerce. This date's mintage primarily went into circulation with a minimal number of Mint State survivors extant. This example radiates frosted luster with orange-gold and rose toning on the unabraded surfaces. Strike is deeply impressed with heavy die clashing on both sides. This half dime is a worthy inclusion into an advanced coinage and warrants a JUST BUY IT NOW recommendation. Previously sold October 2021 via Stack's Bowers online auction where it realized $1320.
