One of the highlights of the new Emerald Collection consignment, this 1868 proof half offers exceptional eye appeal at an "affordable" grade for both type and half dollar series collectors. Sharp reflective mirrors explode under a bright light with layered multi-colored toning being exemplified. The obverse center rose and surrounding aquamarine, as illustrated, shift to predominately sky blues, a hallmark of a choice original 19th century silver proof. The reverse is even more compelling with a thin blue arc at the borders nicely framing center rose. The strike is hammered throughout though I've noted weak vertical shield lines as made. There is a faint lint mark on the cheek and subtle wispy hairlines in the right obverse field that probably preclude a CAC green bean. Regardless, the eye appeal is truly pleasing.
