The 1885 and 1886 Seated half dollar dates are well recognized as having the lowest Philadelphia mintages for the series. 1885 saw 5,200 strikes with minimal surviving circulated populations while 1886 totaled 5,000. Both dates are equally challenging. Enter this important 1885 AU58 offering from the Emerald Collection. This is a duplicate piece with crusted violet-gray toning on both sides. Underlying fields are steely as would be expected. Strike is completed along with choice surfaces. Light rub is detected under the patina.
