 Choice $1650 New September 2! Rare San Francisco Date, Smooth Surfaces, Choice Original. Ex. Tenafly Collection. The 1859-S is a well-known low mintage date in the quarter series that becomes non-existent at the Mint State level. This coin is exceptional for the grade with remarkably smooth surfaces for a F-15 example. Pleasing, medium gray patina covers both sides with light crust around the left stars. The CAC population report indicates 21 approved pieces in all grades with an incremental three CACG holdered. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval. A collector of circulated quarters would be hard pressed to find a more attractive example in the F/VF band, as Briggs notes most pieces come with problems. PCGS #5450.
