Choice $1850 New August 9! Low Mintage Philadelphia Date, Frosted Luster, Excellent Strike, Choice Original, Hoosier Collection. 1852 Philadelphia strikes are well recognized as being a scarce date since a portion could have been melted during the 1851 through early 1853 silver arbitrage period when silver increased in value due to unprecedented amounts of gold reaching the market from California mines. This lot is Briggs 2-B without repunching on the date digits. A fully choice example with steely-frosted radiance and golden toning. The strike is completely executed with boldly detailed motifs. The fields are essentially unabraded also. Overall, a well balanced lot at the certified grade with an ongoing opportunity to speculate why there is no CAC approval as a borderline example. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder. Ex. Twin Lakes Collection and previously sold September 2022.
