 Original $1150 New January 2! Repunched 86, Small Thin S, Reverse of 1861, Web-Book Plate Coin, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. The 1865-S F-102 die pairing, with a bold reverse S mintmark, is much scarcer than its earlier F-101 predecessor though both were struck from the same obverse die that is so prone to partial head strikes. Accurately graded though having an old dip that has left the surfaces an even light silver-gray with gold highlights at the borders. Light parallel lines are noted at the head when examined with a 10x and accurately captured within the GFRC images. Utilized as the die variety plate coin within the Fortin online Liberty Seated dime reference. Purchased October 1991 during the earliest days of Fortin's die variety research. This lot will ship in its period 2x2 with Fortin notations.
