Key Date, Rare Opportunity, Original Old Album Rose, Gray and Aquamarine Patina, Fully Struck, Accurately Graded, Golden Harvest Collection. GFRC is so pleased to be offering this key date grade rarity Liberty Seated quarter from the Golden Harvest Collection. Only once every few years does an AU example of the 1858 San Francisco date arrive to market. 1858-S Seated quarters have a mintage of only 121,000 pieces but the survival rate in choice EF or better is essentially non existence. In the lower circulated grades, this date can be found with little difficulty, but in EF of better, it is a different story. Let's review PCGS Population Report for number graded. In both EF grades, 24 have been certified while in all AU grades (AU50, AU53, AU55 and AU58), the number is only 8. Many of those graded a net graded due to surface issues else there would be few available for growing collector demand. The finest example of this date is the NGC MS62 from the Richmond Collection that sold for $44,850 back in 2005. Now let's have a look at the Golden Harvest Collection specimen. First we must realize that the Golden Harvest consignor is an advanced collector of Liberty Seated quarters but has chosen to remain under the radar screen. He has decided to work with GFRC to handle his duplicates and sourcing finer Seated quarters when arriving to market. This PCGS AU53 graded example is obviously original with old album toning. A base layer of rose-gray patina patina covers both obverse and reverse centers. Those centers are framed by irregular aquamarine rings that surround the stars and legend. Strike is hammered as is common for this date. There are a few tiny circulation ticks on Liberty's lower leg otherwise the balance of the devices and fields are blemish free. Again, the problem for collectors is finding a nice, clean, high-grade example and the Golden Harvest specimen meets that criteria. Housed in old blue label PCGS holder with standard ring insert and ready for a long term stay in an advanced collection. Priced consistent with CoinFacts auction records and fair value. December 1969
