Atypically Choice Surfaces, Low Mintage, Honey-Gold Coloring, CAC Approval. 1895 New Orleans $10 gold strikes are far from "common date" status. Mintage is a meager 98,000 pieces with most found with liberal amounts of abrasions. This fact can be validated by checking surviving populations. PCGS pop report shows most pieces clustered at the MS61 and MS62 grades with choice examples being rare. MS61/62 gold typically suffers from marks and impacted luster. The CAC population further validates with only 64 approved and half being graded MS62. A few AU specimens have been approved including the offered example. Why did I add this piece to GFRC inventory at a premium price? Well preserved surfaces that are practically blemish free along with uninterrupted steely luster are hallmarks of GFRC quality coins. Coloring is a lovely honey-gold with background green shades. In searching for a top tier 1895-O $10 specimen, this eye appealing offering is for you. If searching for a value example for the date, then the hunt continues. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2021) holder with CAC approval. December 1969
