Liberty Seated Dimes - Ultimate Set

The Liberty Seated Dimes with Varieties Ultimate set is a compilation of the With Varieties set with inclusion of the Top 100 Varieties. Clearly, the Top 100 Variety set left out important mintmark size variations within certain dates. After the Top 100 Varieties set announcement, I received feedback about not including all the mintmark sizes, obverse hub changes and reverse hub changes. The response at the time was simple; there were not enough slots in a Top 100 Varieties set to include both mintmark size variations, hubbing changes and the host of popular repunched dates, shattered dies, misplaced dates and significant die marriages. This issue remained open until I observed Bill Bugert constructing an "Ultimate Set" for the half dollar series. A mental note was made to build an Ultimate Seated dime set once the time become available.

During construction of the Liberty Seated Half Dollar Open Set Registry, Bill Bugert defined The Ultimate Seated Half Dollar set as a nearly impossible collecting challenge. His Ultimate Variety Set included 318 of the most desireable half dollar varieties. Taking from the spirit used to build this Ultimate Set, I set out to define a similar ultimate collection for Liberty Seated Dimes to finally capture the broad range of varieties available to diligent collectors. When the definitions were completed, the Liberty Seated Dime Ultimate Set totaled 210 listings. As with the Top 100 Seated Dime set, the Ultimate Set may take a lifetime to complete and progress will be dictated by financial resources and the ability to "dig out" listings via attending major shows or simply building a network of friends within the LSCC community. Once you decide to embark on the Ultimate Set challenge, you will experience countless hours of enjoyment during the "thrill of the hunt" and the excitement when locating difficult set inclusions.

I wish you good luck with your new search. For those collectors with advanced Top 100 sets, these sets will become the basis for automatically building your Ultimate Sets without additional effort on your part. Please be patient with me as I find the time to process each Top 100 set into an Ultimate set. Then I suggest that you copy or download your Ultimate set as a template for adding your incremental listings. Good luck collecting the Liberty Seated Dime Ultimate set!

Rating: The weighted average of all coin grades (i.e. aggregated sum of each coin grade + CAC premium multiplied by its rarity factor divided by the sum of all rarity factors). Missing coins are included and assigned a grade of 0. This metric is the basis for order rank.

Complete: The number of coin entries divided by the total number of coins in the Set.

Weighted Grade: The weighted average of all coin grades (see calculation above), but excluding any missing coins.

%: The ratio of coins certified by CAC (either green or gold sticker). Calculated as the number of CAC coins divided by the total number of entered coins.

Rarity Factor: The rarity assessment for each date/variety uses the Sheldon scale of R1 through R8 with a R1 weight being the most common while an R8 weight being the most difficult to locate. Rarity estimates are by Gerry Fortin as listed in the Definitive Resource for Liberty Seated Dime Variety Collectors webbook.
