Comments: Obverse 4 is first paired with an excessively rusted die, with the rust damage being predominantly around the letters in ONE DIME. There is a die defect or spike shaped die scratch at the lower point of the shield. Larry Briggs first identified this variety. It remains very rare. This plate coin was purchased from Brian Greer after its usage in his book on Liberty Seated dimes. I have not seen another example since that purchase.
