Comments: Obverse 8 exhibits strong repunching of the 18 digits. The repunching is clearly visible above the tops of both digits. There is a diagonal die scratch which starts from Liberty's left hand and moves upward into the gown. Obverse 8 is paired with a later die state Reverse H. This reverse has developed die cracks. The most noticeable die crack connects the tops of the Small CC mintmark with the right and left ribbon ends. The denomination is doubled with the most obvious doubling being seen on DI(ME). The 1876 Carson City variety was discovered by Chuck and Marian Leber and published in the Gobrecht Journal during March 1979.

This variety is infrequently seen and should command a reasonable premium. The plate coin is the finest example seen by the author.
