Seated 50C 1873CC
With Arrows AU55 Seated 50C PCGS 03714990
Ultimate #245 WB-6, Near-Choice, Newtown Collection Silver surfaces exhibit varied pearl-gray patina on both sides, leading to hints of russet color at the rims. Moderate luster is partially mirrored, as typically seen for the issue. The right arrow shaft points to the center of 3 on the WB-6 variety, while the mintmark is level with large Cs. The 1873-CC half comes both with and without arrows, which were added following a weight change mandated by the April 1, 1873 Coinage Act. The legislation enacted a slight increase in the weight of the half dollar, from 12.44 to 12.50 grams. This piece is conditionally scarce, with ten coins graded AU58 by PCGS and 23 examples in all MS grades combined. While not on the level of the 1870-CC or 1874-CC pieces with respect to absolute rarity, any high-grade CC Seated half is a highly desirable coin. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder.
