Ultimate #81 WB-15, Near-Choice, Newtown Collection The WB-15 exhibits a diagonal die gouge extending from the upper left corner of the obverse shield, while a reverse die crack runs through F toward the shield, which at first glance might appear to be a scratch but is as struck. This piece reveals silver color with goldish-olive patina to the right of Liberty, while smoky grey shades fill the reverse surfaces to the right of the eagle. A few bits of dirt appear throughout, most notably around the left knee, calf, and lower loop of S(TATES). Stars 5-8 are soft, while most of the claw joints are distinct. Marky surfaces are steely to partially mirrored. This piece will serve as a case study in die rust and deserves to be carefully studied under a glass. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
