Seated 50C 1858
1858 Type 2 Reverse EF45 Seated 50C PCGS 38230400
Ultimate #132 WB-110, Type 2 Reverse, Original, Newtown Collection The year 1858 saw the creation of a new working hub (Wiley-Bugert variety 2) that lengthened the bases of L in HALF DOL. Both variety 1 and variety 2 reverses appear until 1860, and in 1861 the variety 2 reverse is used exclusively. Presumably, the variety 2 reverse was introduced later in year 1858, as Wiley-Bugert report only two known die marriages employing the new reverse style. This WB-110 (reverse variety 2) example exhibits even silver patina throughout, with additional crusty patches amid the shields and wings. The only mark of note extends from star 5 on the obverse. Well struck, with most star centers evident and near-distinct feather detail. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder.
