Ultimate #74 WB-6R, Original Gray, Newtown Collection The WB-6 is an interesting variety, appearing twice in the die emission sequence with the WB-12 pairing struck in between. This WB-6R second striking (remarriage) is identified by die polishing around Liberty’s foot and weakness in the dentils above Liberty’s head. In-hand comparison with an example of the first striking period would be a compelling exercise. The WB-6 itself is distinguished by a downward sloping date and weakness in the lower portion of the mintmark, in addition to a clash in the lower right of the reverse shield. Patination is uniformly silver and gray with crust hugging the protected areas, a pleasing effect which serves to outline the central devices. The remaining luster is reflective and consistent with the technical grade. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder.
