1840 Rev 1839 EF45 Seated 50C PCGS 39197079
Ultimate #4 WB-1, Reverse of 1839, Repunched Date, Original, Newtown Collection A mélange of violet, baby blue, and light plum patina fills both sides, along with a few russet bits in the stars and legend. Traces of luster remain in the protected areas. WB-1, with date sloping downward and repunching in (18)40, while the reverse shield reveals a clash at the lower right. Strike is typical with stars to the right exhibiting centers, while most of the eagle claws are joined. A few lines are noted to the right of the elbow and to the side of the eagle’s head. The Bugert Encyclopedia classifies all 1840 halves as “Small Letters” – the Guide Book listing of the 1840 Medium Letters actually represents a New Orleans issue struck without the mintmark (1840-O WB-4). Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder.
