Comments: The time has come to begin documenting 1863 through 1867 Restrikes during the administration of Mint Director Linderman. The "Midnight Mint" has become famous for a host of pattern or fantasy strikes including Liberty Seated dimes dated 1863, 1865, and 1867 with newly fabricated obverse dies paired with the same reverse dime. That reverse dime can be easily identified by a long die line as illustrated above. These restrikes were accomplished in different metals with J-333 being strike in copper with these dies.
The specially tooled obverse die has a date punch that is notably different than the government authorized issue during 1863. The date punch comparsion is shown next. Note the completely different 1 and 8 digits on the F-102 restrike.
