Scarcity: This San Francisco date is very scarce in all grades and becomes rare in EF or better.  In Mint State, the release 
of a small hoard allows some availability, though the date is still considered rare.  Ahwash commented about the difficulties 
in locating 1870-S dimes and considered the date to be R-5 in all grades.

Comments: 1870-S dimes always come with a weak reverse denomination due to the reuse of a reverse die from 1869.  Liberty's 
head is often seen flat.  For some reason, Mint State examples can be found with full heads.
