Scarcity: In the lower circulated grades, the 1872-CC dime is more available than the 1871-CC, 1873-CC With Arrows and 1874-CC dates. However in grades of EF or better, the 1872-CC dime becomes extremely rare. This date is excessively rare in Mint State. Updated Greer Rarity Ratings Overall Rarity: G-VG R4, F-VF R4+, EF-AU R5+, MS R8+ Comments: The same reverse die was used to strike all Carson City dimes from 1871 through 1874. A die crack begins to appear through the mintmark on some 1872-CC examples and is always present on 1873-CC and 18744-CC dimes. All Carson City dimes have wider reeding than their Philadelphia counterparts. All four Carson City dates from 1871 through 1874 continue to see considerable upward pricing movement at auctions for original and problem free examples.
