Comments: 1878-CC dimes are found with well struck obverses, including Liberty's head. The three different Type II reverse dies all exhibit weakness in the left wreath due to polishing. The polishing or lapping of these reverse dies is most evident on Reverse D, the shattered reverse die from 1877. This 1877 reverse die was already shattered from usage and has been lapped prior to seeing additional service in 1878. Variety 101 with its Type I reverse is the best candidate for an 1878-CC example that is fully struck on both the obverse and reverse. No additional Carson City dimes will be struck after 1878.
