Gem $2450 Misplaced Digits in Gown, Repunched Date, Gem Original, Brilliant Frosty Cartwheel Luster, Conservative Grading . A gem original 1872 F-102 dime with brilliant frosty luster and huge cartwheel effects. Strike is hammered with bold device details for a With Legend dime. Unknown to most collectors is the fact that the 1872 date is a grade rarity above MS65. After 30 years plus of operation, PCGS has only grade one in MS66 and another in MS67. At the MS65 grade level, there is a population of 10. Potential buyers are invited to check CoinFacts to view the lack of 1872 MS65 auction records. Yes, there are overgraded examples in NGC holders to be had but these will not have the strike, luster and originality of this offering. Housed in old PCGS blue label holder that dates back to the late 1990s. Purchased during January 2004 FUN Show via private transaction. Held in the Gerry Fortin date and mintmark set collection until recently upgraded. My gut feel is this piece will end up in a MS66 holder once place back into the market.
