Better St. Gaudens Date, Choice Original, Rich Orange-Gold Patina, Frosty Cartwheels, Minimal Abrasions, Accurately Graded. Prior to the 1950s, the 1922-S was considered to be one of the premier rarities of the Saint-Gaudens series. However, a series of hoards were located in Europe and Central America that reduced that rarity status. Today, 1922 San Francisco strikes are seen as a better date with strong pricing premium over bullion content. This MS63 graded example is housed in PCGS Gen3.1 old green holder that was issued from 1993 to 1998. Eye appeal is pleasing with rich orange-gold patina that is expected for the issue. Frosty cartwheels are vibrant. Surfaces have minimal abrasions at the assigned grade level. Grading appears to be conservative when adding up luster, coloring and lack of abrasions. From an old time Sarasota area collection that has been off the market for several decades. December 1969
