Seated 25C 1871S Seated 25C 1871-S

Choice $7000 Choice Original, Springfield Collection. The 1871-S Seated quarter doesn't get as much attention as the even rarer 1872-S, but longtime collectors of the series are aware of how tough this issue is, especially in higher grades like the present example. This multi-chromatic piece is pleasingly toned with obverse chestnut shades and reverse hues of blue and pink. The coin is well struck with full detail in the lower part of the eagle, a perpetual problem area on Seated quarters, and the star centers are nearly complete. A light line across the eagle's throat blends into the toning. GFRC recently sold an MS62 example for $8,750. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder. From Pinnacle Rarities, August 2004, to the present consignor.
