Important With Drapery Type, Choice Original, Frosty Cartwheel Luster, Accurately Graded . A lovely 1839 With Drapery mint state half dollar with substantial eye appeal. One immediately notices the frosty cartwheel luster that is consistent on obverse and reverse. Light transparent rose-gold patina covers most of the obverse while the reverse is has a gold arc at the right rim. Strike is outstanding with deeply impressed hair curls, rounded stars and all lower ealge feathers and claws being crisply defined. This is the first Seated Philadelphia strike to be attributed to Bill Bugert's new Volume V Register with the attribution process being straightforward. Arcing radial lines in the lower drapery are a key diagnostic for the WB-7 die variety with a weak clash mark in the lower right shield. PCGS population report indicates only 11 graded MS63 and a detailed CoinFacts auction lot check revealed only four examples listed at auction between September 2006 and October 2016; none with CAC approval. This offering is definitely in the top end of the MS63 graded and worthy of the asking price else I would not have acquired for GFRC inventory. Housed in newer NGC holder with CAC approval. An outstanding type coin or entry into a date and mintmark collection. December 1969
