Key Carson City Seated Half Dollar Date, Old Album Radial Toning, Fully Struck, Important Opportunity . First year of half dollar production at the Carson City mint saw 54,617 pieces struck. This date is an important series key and only dwarfed by the formidable 1878-S and the underrated 1873 No Arrows Open 3. This is a lovely mid-grade circulated example with old album radial toning. During in hand inspection, the fields and devices appear as olive-gray with a darker gray ring surrounding stars and date. Bright light viewing brings a dramatic color transition. The obverse center shifts to light gray while the periphery is clear with a hint of gold. Darker gray-green reverse shades shift to uniform aquamarine during bright light inspection. There are no obvious or noticeable abrasions on either side. A solid original coin that spent several years in the channels of commerce followed by being well preserved including time in an old paper album. Strike is uniform and complete regardless of being a first year issue. Fairly graded and housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder. The 1870-CC date infrequently comes to market and an important opportunity.
