Seated 50C 1839 Seated 50C 1839
Drapery Hub, Gem Original, Substantial Eye Appeal, Copper-Gold, Rose, Aquamarine and Gray Patina, Satiny Cartwheel Luster, Well Struck. Liberty Seated half dollars were first struck in 1839 with both No Drapery and Drapery obverse designs. The No Drapery pieces are not scarcer but are popular as a separate design type. This makes comparable With Drapery examples the better value. Despite a relatively high mintage, the 1839 Drapery date is difficult to find in the better uncirculated grades with MS64 being the last affordable grade. Collector challenge is to locate a top end MS64 example and I believe this offering fits that bill. Old time patina covers both sides and is accentuated by satiny cartwheel luster. Bright light viewing is lots of fun with color transition to lighter shade including peripheral blues and aquamarine. During in hand vewing, this specimen displays variegated electric-blue and copper-gold patina. The obverse is fully stuck, though the eagle's left facing leg feathers are soft. Fairly graded and housed in 2014 generation PCGS holder with CAC approval. A substantial Liberty Seated half dollar offering for the advanced collector who wants only the finest numismatic properties. December 1969
