Difficult New Orleans Date, Near-Gem Original, Cumberland County Collection. Smoky gray-maroon shades cover both sides, with silver patina remaining in a few of the recessed areas. Surfaces are hairline-free and the originality is strong. A few star centers are faint, while the reverse is more sharply struck, with most claw joints defined. WB-2, with the mintmark punched low. Mintage of all silver coins decreased in the early 1850s, prior to the Coinage Act of 1853, and this issue is no exception, with 402,000 pieces struck. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.6 (2013-2014) holder with CAC approval. CAC has approved just 20 pieces in all grades combined, with 12 examples at the AU/MS levels combined. Original survivors of this issue are scarce, and this coin represents a rare opportunity, combining low mintage, substantial design detail, originality, and eye appeal. December 1969
