No Drapery
R5 Die Pairing, Popular No Drapery Type, Choice Original, Light Gray Patina, Typical Strike, Accurately Graded. Noted Liberty Seated half dollar researcher, Bill Bugert, has identified four different die pairing for 1839 No Drapery strikes in his Philadelphia Federal Registry. Those four die pairings result from two obverse dies and four reverse dies. Die variety WB-3 is the rarest of the four pairings and is easily attributed by a reverse die crack through the lower right wing that proceeds to the tip of the top most arrow and then to the rim. Pricing the WB-3 is challenging given limited results in the GFRC archives at the die variety level. This WB-3 example is strictly original with light gray patina over blemish free surfaces. Strike is quite typical for No Drapery specimens with weakness at the lower left eagle leg and claws. A choice example that is housed in 2015 style PCGS holder with CAC approval. Ideal for a collector considering a four piece die variety set of No Drapery Seated halves.
