Deep, even slate fields create cameo contrast with the silver-gray central devices, while the high points of Liberty and the eagle exhibit the lighter shades. Original surfaces are smooth for the grade and overall appeal is wholesome. The Bust realization of Liberty represents one of the most iconic designs in American coinage and immediately evokes the mythology of the 1804 dollar. While this piece obviously cannot claim the same level of rarity, it remains a pleasing 18th century example of the early Mint's workmanship.
