 Choice $850 New September 2! Difficult Early San Francisco Issue, Choice Original, Massachusetts Collection.. An underrated San Francisco issue with the short lived Type 1 obverse hub, the 1861-S date is scarce in all lower circulated grades and become very scarce in VF or better. Additionally, this is the toughest S-Mint date in the 1860's to locate and remains undervalued in grades of EF or better. This Massachusetts Collection example presents light to medium gray surfaces on both sides. Fully choice with nicely detailed motifs which are evenly worn. The Type 1 obverse design wears quickly and has a "mushy" appearance once circulated. An accurately graded lot that is housed in a PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder. PCGS #4634.
