 Original $2950 New September 2! Rare in Mint State, Original, Massachusetts Collection.. The 1872 San Francisco issue is a difficult date to locate in all circulated grades and rare in Mint State condition. Greer assigns an R7- rarity rating in Mint State per his guidebook. The PCGS population report notes 20 in all MInt State grade which surely contains regrades as that number is too high based on experience. This is food for thought when considering this Massachusetts Collection example. Steely-frosted fields are evident on both sides with a grayish-blue coloration and embedded gold at the margins. The overall strike is complete and quite pleasing. Luster is the primary parameter setting the certified grade as the surfaces are essentially unabraded. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder.
