 Choice $1150 New September 2! Large Depression Below Shield and on Maple Leaf, Natural Light Gray Patina, Choice Original, Tenafly Collection.. In his Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Dimes, Greer indicates that two F-101a examples were seen with a large depression at the lower left of the shield. To date, no explanation has been offered for this anomaly but a filled die with foreign substance would be a logical hypothesis. Much to my surprise, there is a choice original F-101a example in the Tenafly Collection. Even without the rare die state, this 1865-S dime is highly desirable. Surfaces are toned a natural light gray with no abrasions. Strike is typical to slightly better for the F-101 die pair. It would be difficult to locate a finer example at the VF25 grade level. The CAC census is 26 total with $825 value estimate before the die variety rarity premium. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder with CAC approval. Worthy of a strong bid! PCGS #4642.
