The 1873 Open and Closed 3 half eagles follow the same date punch revisions that permeated throughout the non-dollar silver coinage of that year. With comparable mintages and CAC census populations, both date punch variants are equally available and priced accordingly. This Tenafly lot presents partially mirrored fields under a bright light and classic green-gold colors with darker shades on the motifs. All star centers are fully defined, however the eagle neck feathers and lower left leg are partially struck. A total of 30 Open 3 examples are CAC approved with a price guide value at $1250 rounding out the key points. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder with CAC approval.
