 Gem $4950 New September 2! Brilliant Frosted Luster, Gem Original, Massachusetts Collection.. 1886-S is a scarce and underrated issue in Mint State, yet it is often priced similarly to more obtainable dates such as the 1879 and 1880. The CAC census is only 20 in all grades with nearly all approved being Mint State. This richly frosted and lustrous specimen originated from the Gerry Fortin Reference Collection, and as a duplicate, sold into the Massachusetts Collection during October 2021. An exceptional example as the pristine surfaces are covered with variegated deep rose and steel-blue toning that is somewhat lighter on the reverse. Strike is sharply defined with partial wire rims noted. GFRC images accurately capture the overall coloration but are unable to fully illustrate the bright light radiance and spinning cartwheels. Recently reholdered into its current PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder with CAC approval. PCGS #4697.
