Choice $4150 New October 8! Very Rare Large O, Circulated Cameo Eye Appeal, Strictly Original. GFRC is excited to be offering this very rare 1839-O V-1 example struck with the Large O reverse of 1840. Few examples are documented and listed as R5 rarity in the Cummings online reference at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_o5viK3j9ao797Jc0aN8_h8J-N8W6_-D/view. His reference presents a roster of known specimens with this lot unlisted and easily being a top 5 specimen. Pricing records are minimal leading to a challenge with setting an offer price. GFRC has sold an PCGS AU53 CAC example for $12,000 as the highest priced record. An AU Details example, the Al Blythe plate coin, has sold twice for $4,313 and $,3000. Next in the roster is an original ANACS EF40 that has sold for $6,500 and $4,773. No VF sales records are reported by Cummings. My offer number captures this example's circulated cameo eye appeal that should immediately cement its status in the condition census. Surfaces are well preserved with natural coin gray patination and without contact marks. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder. Please note that our consignor has not submitted this lot to CAC. The originality is all there for approval, the question mark is how conservative is the grading, a second and parallel criteria.
