Gem $8750 New October 7! Exceptional Eye Appeal, Steely-Frosted Luster, Gem Original. Regardless of its 160,000 reported mintage, the 1851 Philadelphia issue is much scarcer than expected with the 1851 through 1853 silver arbitrage being a probable explanation. Briggs states that "Nice AU and UNC coins are rare and have a semi-pale frosted look. GFRC is proud to be offering this exceptionally toned example with steely-frosted radiance that amplifies light orange-gold and aquamarine patination that "floats" on the surfaces. A hammered strike allows for minute die anomalies to be readily inspected with a 10x. Of note are several rust pits on the neck and left-facing arm. Fields are undisturbed with a single tiny contact mark above the left wing edge. Yes, I'm being overly criterial here as this piece is a color and luster play that belongs in the most advanced collectors under construction. The CAC census stands at 33 approved with a single finer in full gem. The current CAC price guide at $6,750 is a conservative estimate given only five total are approved in MInt State. Housed in NGC Gen 3 (1987-1989) pristine Fatty holder with CAC approval.
