Choice Original, Typical Strike, Light Old Album Toning, Conservative Grading. The later date With Stars San Francisco strikes are always popular as semi key dates. Locating 1858-S examples is higher circulated grades that are problem free can be quite challenging. For your consideration is a lovely F-101 die variety example that has been graded EF45 by PCGS and resides in old PCGS blue label holder with standard ring insert. The assigned grade is accurate to a bit conservative given the non uniform striking issues with this date and also the subsequent 1859 date. Surfaces are original with residual luster. Gold and dark blue rim toning, typical of old album storage, is seen on both obverse and reverse. Obverse strike is reasonably strong with rounded stars but lack a full head and rounded lower leg. The reverse strike is so typical for the date with considerable weakness in the lower wreath leaves. I like this example as above average quality for most surviving examples seen as a collector.
