Description: Estes launched the Stiletto model rocket kit #1323 in the 1979 catalog with follow on appearances in the 1980 through 1983 catalogs. The 1979 version kit, as pictured above, carries typical skill level hang tag and facecard packaging. The hang tag is Version 3 and the last of the skill level hang tag updates. The Stilleto facecard is Version 2 with the rocket launch sequence in the background. This specific facecard also has the NEW! emblem designating the first year of release.
The Stilleto is a skill level 2 scale like surface to air interceptor missile with realistic military decals. It is powered with traditional 18mm engines and safely returns with a 12" parachute. Based on the kit's specifications, it does suggest that the Stilleto is a reasonable sports rocket with B or C engines.
Kit Contents: The kit features a main body tube, plastic nose cone, plastic display nozzle, 18 mm engine mount kit, a die cut balsa sheet, wood strip for fairings, two multi color decal sheets, 12" parachute, launch lug and instruction sheet.
Availability: I consider the Stiletto kit with "New" facecard emblem to be very scarce and desireable as a first year issue. A subsequent black paper hang tag and Version 2 pink skill level facecard packaging combination was introduced in the 1980-1983 timeframe.
