Description: Estes Hyperion model rocket kit #1383 first appeared in the Estes 1982 catalog and again in 1983. It was a short lived model probably due to complex ring tail design. All kits seen to date have been with the black paper hang tag and a red facecard with an overlaid white and red detailed Hyperion rocket. Please note that the facecard indicates the kit's name is "USS Hyperion" while all catalog references are simply listed as "Hyperion." The facecard also features the classic Estes launch sequence illustration to indicate that 900 ft flights are possible.
The Hyperion is a futuristic and exotic design and marketed by Estes as "Deep space cruiser of the 22th century with unique ring tail design." It is a pure paper rocket with die cut paper fins and three size rings.
Kit Contents: The kit contains a main body tube, plastic nose cone, large, medium and small rings, die cut fin sheet, pattern sheet, 18mm engine mount, decal sheet, 18" parachute, launch lug and instruction sheet.
Availability: This kit is considered to be moderately scarce and can be found with frequent checking of eBay model rocket kit offerings. Though only a two year kit, the survival rate is probably higher due to the skill level 3 designation and complex ring tail construction.
