Description: Pre Damon era WAC Corporal scale model rocket kit with yellow hang tag. The instruction sheet also serves as an illustrated facecard. The artwork includes a gray/black WAC Corporal rocket, kit name and pricing "Only $1.50" in blue and Estes Industries name and address in black. The WAC Corporal artwork could be considered simplistic. The plastic bag is pleated.
The WAC Corporal was American's first sounding rocket having its origin during World War II timeframe as a counter missile development program to that of the Germans. The WAC acronym stands for Without Altitude Control indicating the simplicity of the rocket design. For detailed information, please check the Jcrocket.com link below.
Kit Contents: The kit contents include a main body tube, balsa nose cone and nose weight, two sheets of balsa stock, engine block, 12" parachute, launch lug, instructions and Estes TR-1 stability report.
Availability: Early WAC Corporal kits with instruction sheet facecard and pre Damon yellow hang tag are consider to be very rare. They should bring a substantial premium when problem free unopened kits do appear on the market. Only one appearance of this kit has been recorded on eBay since 2008 at a realized price of $110. I would expect any incremental kits to bring a larger premium due to rarity awareness by the collecting community.
