Countdown Hang Tag
Red Two Panel Facecard with $2.75 Pricing
Designers: Gene Street
Production Years: 1970-1971
Retail Pricing Range: $2.75
Rarity: Very Rare
Description: The initial Cherokee-D kit version was released with Damon era Countdown hang tag and Pre Damon era red double panel facecard design. Facecard has two black outlined rectangular boxes with the upper illustrating a static Cherokee-D rocket image over red background, $2.75 price inside black oval and printing stating, "Design by Gene Street". The lower box features the kit name and attributes black letters over gray background. The lower section of facecard provides kit number, kit specifications and engine recommendations.
The Cherokee-D model rocket is a true D engine sport flyer and a long term hobby favorite. Most kits were probably built rather than saved.
Kit Contents: The Cherokee-D kit contains a balsa nose cone, main body tube, one balsa sheet, 24mm engine mount, 18"parachute, decals, launch lug and instructions.
Availability: Locating the initially released kit with Countdown hang tag will prove to be very difficult. No examples were recorded during the 2008 through 2011 eBay tracking timeframe. As a result, I am listing this kit version as very rare with a strong premium price of greater than $200 being justified for problem free kit. Finding the later issued kits with combination black hang tag and pink skill level facecard is also challenging but not as difficult as the Countdown hang tag version. Easiest to locate are kits with combination pink skill level facecard and hang tags.
