Original Love Token Necklace, 16 Barber and Seated Dimes. A magnificent piece of Victorian jewelry that is fully intact and covered with original gray patina. Each of the 16 love tokens are well engraved with many pictorial and name combinations. The top row of token are all 1892 Barber dimes while the attached second row are a combination of 1875 and 1891 Seated dimes. At least one of the 1875 dimes is an 1875 Carson City struck example. Top row names from left to right include; Margarete, Marie (with bird), LR (owl holding book), Mamie (with sailboats), Lydia (with bird and water plants), FATHER on banner, Mother and NTN (with seascape). Bottom row names from left to right include; Auntie, Joe (with shoe), 1891 (horse draw railcar), A, HEY, Alice, ROSIE (with chinese couple pictorial), G. In wearable condition with functioning clasp. The love token arc (once worn) measures about 5" in wide.

New November 22! Original Love Token Bracelet, 10 Seated Dimes. From a Hawaii consignor who wishes to find a new home for this lovely 10 piece Seated dime bracelet. All love tokens are a nice gray color with all but one having a single piercing. Moving clockwise from right to left on the image, following at the engraving and dates; JCM (blank), GAB (blank), Frank (blank), ML (1876), KB (1884), ML (1877), LF (1873 closed 3), WFK (1883), JGD (1876), HSM (1876). Some of the engravings are sequential lettering while others are typical two or three letter interwoven monograms. Each love token is hung on a steel wire that has an approximate 3" diameter when closed. There is no working clasp on this bracelet with some effort required to install a clasp device before wearing.

Indian Head Cent: An 1895 cent with loop and ornate GJ engraved on reverse. Entire cent is plated with gold colored material is shows some wear.

Bust Dime: Early Date, Original Medium Gray Patina. Who knows the die pairing used to strike this early bust dime? Regardless, this is an important opportunity for bust coinage collectors to obtain quality love tokens at reasonable prices. This 1820 dated piece is an example with original medium gray patina. The reverse is engraved with initials WWB, WBW or BWW. The attached loop is well soldered and well matches the dime's original coloring. From the collection of a well known bust coinage expert.

Bust Dime, Choice Original Obverse. An attractive host bust dime with original gray surfaces and ample remaining details. The reverse is engraved with the initials AFS, ASF, FSA, FAS, SAF or SFA. One piercing. From the collection of a well known bust coinage expert.

Bust Dime: Full Name Engraving. One does not see too many love tokens on bust coinage. This example is lower grade with soldered ring. This is one of the bust dime love tokens with a full name engraving. The reverse has the name THEDA engraving with borders.

Bust Dime, Rounded Button Like Rim! A really cool love token when one considers the bust dime host coin and the workmanship to create a button like appearance. The engraved reverse initials are FS. From the collection of a well known bust coinage expert.

Bust Dime, Crusty Old Patina Throughout! One rarely sees a love token with such crusty old patina let alone a bust dime love token. Close inspection suggests the dime may have been plated with a light gold or brown film but this is speculation. Reverse is engraved with the initials FG. One piercing. Bust Dime, Bold Workmanship! Another important love token on a bust dime base coin. The reverse of this 1834 dime features deeply engraved letters and ornate circular frame. Bust Dime, Incredible Engraving, Four Loops! An intricate reverse engraving on this 1835 host bust dime. Determining the three initials is challenging due to the engraved background along with primary letter. As best as I can tell, the initials are ARK, AKR, RAK, RKA, KRA or KAR. Four well soldered loops indicating a former life as part of bracelet. From the collection of a well known bust coinage expert.

Pond Flowers Landscape, Natural Original Gray. A wonderfully executed love token on half dime with pond flowers on one side and the initials JTW, JWT, TJW, TWJ, WJT or WTJ on the reverse. The flowered side has a green hue while the initials side is even gray.

Original Obverse Patina. A very sharp engraved half dime with gun metal blue gray patina and no obverse marks whatsoever. Reverse is engraved with bold T surrounded by B and H letters. Letters appear to be combination of BTH, BHT, TBH, THB, HTB or HBT.

Bold reverse engraving with residual blue enamel in letters. Letters appear to be combination of ELT, ETL, LET, LTE, TEL, TLE letters with small hole.

Two Sided Love Token with Brother written in flowing script. Brother is bordered by ornate ring. Other side of love token has portrait with leaning flower on top of well curved base.

Two Sided Love Token with engraved letters PRR, RRP, RPR on one side and alternate side showing simple plant engraving with diagonal banner. Well defined and soldered loop.

ECH sequential initials engraved on obverse. Worn with some fine obverse hairline scratches.

Nice Original 1843/1843 F-103 Seated Dime: Simple sequential AJH initials engraved on reverse. Small hole at obverse 12:30 otherwise choice.

Original Medium Gray. A nicely done piece on earlier seated dime with engraved letters BHL, BLH, HBL, HLB, LHB or LBH. Original single piercing.

Iron Pictorial, Original Gray. Delicate engraving of an old fashion stove top metal iron on the reverse. Nice original gray surfaces with only one piercing.

Three Letter Love Token. Base coin is 1853 with arrows dime. Reverse has overlapping engraved letters HLB, HBL, LHB, LBH, BLH or BHL. One piercing.

Sequential LAC initials engraved with zipper type borders. Stick pin solder mount on obverse.

Nice and Original jewelry piece with intact brooch clip. Reverse is engraved with sequential EER initials.

Decorative Engraving. Lovely Grandma engraving over semi circle pedestal. Dual holes.

Original Gray. An earlier date with reverse polished smooth with engraved letters MAJ, MJA, AMJ, AJM, JMA or JAM Obverse is original, problem free with sharp rims.

Scarcer Date, Polished. Love tokens dated 1868 through 1871 are much scarcer than later years. This example has sequential engraved letters JHJ and has been polished to exhibit sharp luster. One piercing at 12:00.

Original patina with engraved initials FW and intricate line detailing around edge of reverse. Holed.

S Initial, Top 100 Varieties, 1872/1872 Repunched Date. It is always fun to examine Seated dime love tokens for potential Top 100 Varieties. This one turned out to be #72 the F-106 repunched date variety. Reverse has single large bold S. There is a well soldered loop in this piece.

Leaf Portait, Popular Top 100 Varieties, 1873/1873 RPD. What a combination with this offering. The host coin is an 1873/1873 repunched date and listed as #59 in the Top 100 Varieties set. The reverse engraving is a well executed leaf surrounded by textured field which is framed inside an ornate ring. Really beautiful workmanship on this special piece.

Original Gray Toning! A well detailed love token with engraved initials FA on reverse. Obverse is toned an even ebony/gray. Completely problem free.

Ebony Toning! The initials MAH, MHA, AMH, AHM, HAM or HMA engraved on reverse. Holed.

Choice Original Gray! One does not often see the 1874 dime used as host coin for love token jewelry. This piece has crusty original gray patina with the reverse engraved with WTJ, WJT, TJW, TWJ, JTW or JWT. One tiny piercing.

Dual Themed Love Token. A most interesting piece that combines a three letter initial with lighthouse and seaside portrait. Workmanship is high including the use of different surfaces texturing between the initials (darker) and the portrait(lighter via cleaning). Engraved initials are well executed and read TDL, TLD, DTL, DLT, LTD or LDT. A must have piece for the avid love token collector.

Magbell Engraving. I suspect the name Magbell is short for Maggie Bellefontaine, Maggie Belle or similar. Nice reverse engraving with circular framing.

Original Gray. A simple M is engraved on the reverse and framed by ornate rim engraving. Probably a former stick pin as there are signs of a mount being removed.

Sequential DDK initials engraved on reverse. Holed.

Rusted Obverse Die with engraved reverse initials FP or PF on smooth surface. There are some obverse lines on this piece.

Original Gray Tone on obverse with engraved NGB, NBG, BGN, BNG,GBN, or GNB initials on the reverse. A quality piece with no holes or significant impairments.

Light Gray Tone on obverse with engraved reverse initials SJL, SLJ, JSL, JLS, LJS or LSJ. Engraving is bold and sophisticated with no holes to detract.

Original Obverse Patina with ornate reverse engraving including initials WFL, WLF, FWL, FLW, LFW or LWF surrounded by tightly scalloped rim.

Original Medium Gray Tone with engraved CSC, SCC, CCS on the reverse.

Original Light Gray Obverse with ornate reverse engraved with symmetrical HWH initials. Letters are surrounded by circular ring at the rim. I don't see any wear on the reverse engraving or surfaces.

Peripheral engraved ring surrounds HEL, HLE, ELH, EHL, LEH, LHE monogram. Holed.

EF 45 details, peripheral engraved ring surrounds LBR, LRB, BLR, BRL, LBR, LRB monogram. Holed.

Original Medium Gray Patina with Engraved "Papa". Tiny hole at obverse 12:00.

Sequential FGT initials engraved reverse. This is a Carson City dime since obverse exhibits considerable die rust in the shield, on Liberty and AMERICA letters are joined. Holed at 12:00 and previously cleaned.

Carson City Mint base coin and variety F-129. EEK engraving on reverse border by vines and arrows around the periphery. Original gray toning. Holed.

Original Surfaces. Surfaces on this love token are strictly original with even medium gray patina. Reverse features the engraved initials NH or HN. One piercing at 12:00.

Detailed scalloped peripheral carvings surround an ornate engraving of BCH, BHC, CBH, CHB, HBC, HCB initials . Dime has been polished.

Original. The obverse is toned an original gray while reverse is engraving with BSE, BES, SBE, SEB, ESB or EBS initials. Dime has one hole.

Dutch Landscape. Reverse features a well done windmill and country side landscape with tiny EW initials bordering the lower piercing. The 1878 date is scare for usage as love token host coins.

Well scripted and sequential EAK reverse engraving with decorated borders. Base dime is well struck with original ebony toning.

Elegant sequential FHA reverse engraving with precise borders. A high quality piece.

Reverse engraved with LTJ in circular overlapping design. Quite uncommon design for Seated dime based love tokens. Base dime is full EF45 condition rendering this a desireable collector item.

Filled obverse die at first 8 digit in date. Sequential SMK reverse engraving, old loop has been removed.

New October 8! Original Gray Surfaces, Attractive. A lovely Seated dime love token with original gray surfaces. The letters HJ or JH are boldly engraved on the reverse. One piercing and ready to be mounted on chain.

Mint State Example. This love token has all the hallmarks of a freshly made piece without any signs of circulation. I suspect the reverse was lapped in a special jig as to not impact the obverse surface. Circular lathe lines are present present on the reverse, having not been fully polished out. The sequential initials LGJ are engraved in script lettering along with ornate border. This piece is a case study in how love tokens were made and desireable.

High Grade, Nice Script Engraving. A well executed love token on high grade 1883 base coin. The reverse has the sequential letters JMD engraved in elaborate script. Letters are well frame with ornate rim. One piercing.

High Grade Example. Lots of remaining obverse details on this nice AU50-AU55 grade Seated dime. Reverse has the engraved letters EUP, EPU, UPE, UEP, PUE or PEU. One piercing.

Nice Original Patina. A lovely love token with original surfaces and loop. Reverse engraved initials are DWO, DOW, WOD, WDO, OWD or ODW. Just a nice problem free love token that is suitable as a gift.

Nice original love token with light gray/rose patina. Bold initials HE or EH are carved on reverse. Well soldered loop adds a nice charm to this piece.

Strictly original toning love token with light to medium colors. Reverse is wrapped scroll and engraved with sequential E.L.Y while obverse exhibits deep original toning.

The initials WMF, WFM, MWF, MFW, FMW or FWM were engraved on the reverse. Surfaces are even silver gray as shown in the images.

A lovely example with engraved scroll bordered by ribbon ends and ornate rim. The letters RG are engraved in the scroll. Surfaces are nice even gray. One hole.

Bold Luster, Sharp Engraving. A nicely done piece with precise edge ring and well centered letters GGJ, GJG or JGG.

Will name engraved on reverse. The base 1885 dime is a wonderfully original piece with medium gray patina throughout and bold strike. A better than average in terms of perservation.

Choice High Grade Example. A skillfully engraved piece with the sequential letters ARL on the reverse. Obverse graded a full AU. One piercing.

Nice Original Gray, BW Initials. A well engraved piece with nice medium gray patina. The sequential letters BW are engraved on a scroll on the reverse and well framed.

FLC, FCL, LFC, LCF, CLF, CFL initials on reverse with edge border. Holed

Higher grade love token with the sequential letters FIG engraved on nicely toned reverse. Obverse is well struck and grades a minimum of EF 45 or better.

High Grade 1888 Dime. Nicely engraved reverse while the obverse is essentially mint state in terms of details. The sequential initials FEF are surrounded by multiple rings. A tiny piercing at 12:00.

Solid Loop. A nice done three letter love token with solid loop. On the reverse, the initials MEA, MAE, EAM, AEM, AEM or AME are engraved.

Oceanside landscape with lighthouse, boat, and bird details and FLV initials on reverse. Original patina with two holes.

Interesting scalloped reverse edges surround JMC initials and the date 1888. Obverse is AU details.

MOTHER engraving on reverse and bordered by two holes. Original gray patina.

Original Mint State and F-126 Misplaced Digits In Shield! Very high on the cool scale as the offered dime has an obverse that is strictly original and mint state while the reverse has bold and powerful "HS" or "SH" engraving. The obverse is also the F-126 variety with doubled 18 misplaced digits in the shield but is in a later die state so the shield area is a bit eroded. The reverse has deep peripheral toning. I suspect this dime was engraved, put away and never saw any usage as a jewelry piece due to its originality.

Bold Luster, Top 100 Varieties #90, Misplaced Digit in Gown. A nicely engraved love token on 1890 misplaced digit in gown variety seated dime. Condition is AU or better. Reverse engraving is sequential TCM. Two piercing are noted.

Wonderful high grade love token with essentially no wear. Obverse sports light rose/gray toning while the reverse is a combination of the sequential engraved letters EET with ornate border and accenting plant under the engraving. A superior love token.

F-106 Four Misplaced Digits Top 100 Variety coupled with JNB, JBN, NBJ, NJB, BNJ, BJN combination initials.

Nice 1891 love token with strong loop and boldly engraved MWJ, MJW, WJM, WMJ, JWM, JMW initials.

Difficult New Olreans Piece, Original Gray. A well executed love token on 1891 New Orleans mint strike dime. The rim cudding is typical of New Orleans varieties. Reverse has sequential CAU engraving. Well attached loop compliments this nice exonumia piece.

Lovely Brooch: Obverse is engraved with simple flower ring encircling the initials Mc'M. Mounting pin is in good working order.

I bought this love token due to the superior engraving workmanship. The initials SSH, SHS, HSS are engraved on a textured field and surrounded with rim border. The base coin is a with motto Philadelphia mint struck quarter. The two holes are not detracting and the surfaces are silver white.

Perfect Gray Patina, Early Date Quarter. Early date seated love tokens are not often seen. This example is dated 1841 and the obverse lacks diagnostics to tell if Philly or New Orleans mint strike. Reverse engraving is bold and intertwined SCC, CSC or CCS. A delicate edge border completes this piece.

Original Patina, Brooch. Interesting love token with Joe to Sue engraved on obverse and single initial S <Sue> engraced on the reverse. Nearly all hardware is in place and well soldered. The 1847 date is better in the Liberty Seated quarter series.

Freemason Brooch. Hand engraced Freeman brooch with nearly all hardware in place. Of important is reverse engraving that reads, Will Hice - Temple Lodge No.47. Nice original silver surfaces with deep gray patina.

Quarter Brooch With Functioning Clip. Reverse is from 1853 Arrow & Rays piece. Obverse features the sequential letters JRK surrounding with sun like rays.

New January 26! C-101, Arrows with No Rays, Love Token Reverse. A near unique piece that surfaced during January 2016 and consignment to GFRC for evaluation and sale. The base metal is copper or brass with overall weight at 5.2 grams. There is no edge reeding on the piece. The only example listed in the LSCC contemporary counterfeit database is a G-VG example struck with handcut dies. The reverse has been converted into a love token with the initials "FF". Most of the reverse silver wash remains intact including the rim. The obverse has no traces of silver wash and interestingly, no evidence of a pin back or center solder joint. It is doubtful that the obverse could have worn down to a Fair 2 grade while the reverse retains most of the silver wash. A very interesting piece that will require research by the new owner.

Wonderful reverse engraving with perfect circular grooves reminding me of a 33 LP design with initials BR in the center. Flowers add to the piece's beauty. The obverse has the remains of brooch pin solder joints.

Well executed brooch design and initials MC on plain polish surface surrounded by highly detailed outer ring. The framing effect is eye appealing. Pin and clip hardware are removed.

Choice Original Condition. A former brooch with the engraved initials JOGT on mark free reverse surface. The initials are nicely framed with excellent workmanship. The old brooch mounting pin and clip have been professional removed leaving gun metal gray/blue toned surfaces.

Original Gray. A former brooch with the engraved initials JH and framed by ornate border. Overall piece is nice antique gray. The old brooch hardware is removed.

Barber Dime: AU 50 details with many obverse hairlines. Lovely "Marbelle" engraving..

Morgan Dollar: A superior host Morgan dollar with brooch pin and locking clip intact. Inner engraving of initials HLN, HNL, NHL, NLH, LHN or LNH is surrounded by ornate outer ring comprised of inter connected leaves. Reverse exhibits original gray patina.

1861 Liberty Head $2.5. An early love token with 1861 host $2,5 coin. Reverse is engraved with EJ or ET in an elegant script.

Very nice problem free Queen Victoria 10 cent piece grading EF45 or better details. Over the years, this piece has acquired a light golden patina that enhances its charm. Solid loop with KB inscribed on reverse.

Early British copper farthing with George III on obverse. Reverse is engraved Ann Cliff, Born 3 Dec 1826. Holed.

Early British 4 pence dated 1848 with loop. Reverse has engraved outer ring showcasing the sequential initials ALF and date 1892.

Lovely Queen Victoria 3 pence grading at least EF40 details. Original dark gun metal gray/blue patina did not transfer well in the images. Note the careful reverse polishing and insertion of DON inscription. One of my favorite pieces in the Maine collection.
