Scarcity: Scarce in circulated grades but much more available in Mint State grades than its low mintage would suggest.

Comments: Typically well struck. Variety 101a presents collectors with a boldy clashed obverse where much of the
reverse elements have been transferred to the obverse die. Ahwash indicates that 55,000 pieces were delivered on
February 17 while the remaining 40,000 pieces when issued on February 19, 1853. Based on this information, the
reverse die states and the scarcity of Variety 102, it is possible that the second delivery of 40,000 pieces was
that of Variety 102.
