Scarcity: One of the key dates within the Liberty Seated Dime series. In circulated grades from G through VF, this date is very scarce and becomes rare in EF. In Mint State, this date is excessively rare with few examples known to exist. As with all Carson City dimes from 1871 through 1874, the challenge remains in finding examples that are problem free, as most come with varying levels of porosity. Updated Greer Rarity Ratings Overall Rarity: G-VG R4+, F-VF R5, EF-AU R6-, MS R7+ Comments: Genuine 1873-CC With Arrows dimes will always come with wide reeding and a die crack through the mintmark. This die crack should be visible on all circulated grade examples. Brian Greer indicates, "For years, this date was considered to be the key collectable date within the <Seated Dime> series, possibly due to association with the unique 1873-CC No Arrows. More recently the 1874-CC has staked its claim to overall "key" status within the regular series." All four Carson City dates from 1871 through 1874 continue to see considerable upward pricing movement at auctions for original and problem free examples.
