It is well recognized that the 1840 transition from No Drapery to With Drapery designs resulted in few of the new design type being saved by East Coast collectors. As a result, the With Drapery design is very scarce in circulated grades and rare in Mint State. The CAC population bears this fact out so clearly with a total population of only 28 pieces. Nearly all are clustered at the VG10 through EF40 grades. GFRC is pleased to be offering the lone EF45 specimen that has been approved with no AU50/AU53 examples stickered. Olive-gold toning is heavier on the obverse while the reverse exhibits residual steely luster that is typical of strictly original survivors.
