Choice $2000 Challenging Higher Grade Offering, Hammered Strike, Crusty Gray Patina, Choice Surfaces, Cleveland Collection. The 1845 New Orleans date remains under appreciated in the Liberty Seated dime series. Examples in EF 45 are scarce while AU specimens present a huge challenge. GFRC is pleased to be offering this choice duplicate from the Cleveland Collection. What a well balanced and pleasing example for the discriminating collector! One immediately notes the hammered strike with high relief devices and full visual access to the rusted obverse die. Surfaces are covered with a thick crusty gray skin that exposes embedded orange-gold during bright light inspection. There is one vertical contact mark on the reverse at the upper left wreath that is ancient and fully toned over. Rusted verdigris surrounds the date and is further testament to the strict originality. Yes, this piece has been to CAC and was not stickered as a borderline coin and deserves another submission. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
