 Original $300 Misplaced Date, Original, Steven Vitale Collection.. This lot is the rare Four Misplaced Digits In Lower Gown die variety. The top loops of four digits are visible in the lower gown. The left and right outer digits appear to be the top loops of an 8 and 0 digits and are positioned directly above the final date punch. The two inner misplaced digits appear to be the top loops of a 9 and 0 punch. Chris Pilliod first published this spectacular misplaced date in the Gobrecht Journal. I consider the 1890 F-106 MPD to be one of the key varieties within the Seated Dime misplaced date series and also within the Top 100 Varieties set. The Vitale example is noted to have partially mirrored fields. Their reflectance is limited by scattered field abrasions thus the GFRC-Original quality rating. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.6 (2013-2014) holder. The label documents the die variety as MPD FS-302.
