Choice $3250 New March 15! Tough Civil War Philadelphia Issue, Crusty Original, Choice Surfaces, Lakeland Collection. Among the Civil War issues, the 1863 rates with the 1866 and 1867 in terms of rarity when pursuing strictly original examples. Prior to the 1980s Internet age, most complete Seated dime collections would contain proofs in the Civil War business strike lots. Today, that rarity is well known with prices continuing to climb due to increasing demands for rare collectible in general and the Liberty Seated Collectors Club in particular. This lot is perfectly original with crusty patina on both sides. Key is the consistency of the patina that validates originality. Under a bright light, the fields are steely with the reverse being lightly mirrored. Pastel aqua and gold on the reverse is most pleasing. A Lakeland Collection duplicate that will undoubtedly find a new home at the offer price. Housed in NGC Gen 9 (2001-2003) holder.
