R6 		Original $650 Shattered Reverse, Crusty Original, Top 100 Varieties, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. A spectacular 1887-S shattered reverse with die cracks that form a concentric inner ring that covers about 60% of the wreath. There are three exit points to the rim with the 6:00 and 9:00 exits being substantial. Interestingly, this reverse is well struck in spite of the massive die cracks. The Medium S mintmark shows repunching in the upper loop and could be yet another S over S variety. This example has been residing my bank box for years and the time has arrived to sell. The obverse is toned a natural gray with the reverse covered with a thick crusty patina. With a 10x, the shattered reverse is confirmed as being in a later die state consistent with the Top 100 Variety web-book plate coin. Housed in newer NGC holder with edge view insert.
