 Gem $1600 New March 3! Cameo Designation, Watery Mirrors, Superb Gem Original, Evergreen State Collection.. Though circulation strike silver coinage levels were limited during 1880, the striking of proofs increased to 1,355 piece, a substantial number for the Liberty Seated dime denomination. Those worthy of Cameo designation continue to be a small fraction of the surviving population. The Evergreen State example typifies what I consider to be the classic cameo proof "look". Sharp reflective fields bring a watery texture under a light source. Surfaces are mostly untoned with a hint of gold at the peripheries. Primary devices are lighted frosted as would be expected. Consistent with the superb gem certification, the fields are pristine other than a single obverse line from the drapery to (A)MERICA. PCGS reports 19 certified at this grade, a reflection of the high mintage. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder.
